Vanessa is a registered Psychologist in Brazil with over twelve years experience in the field of clinical psychology. She is warm and highly empathic, and dedicated to understanding and caring for the psychological health of children and adolescents.
With an analytical-empathetic approach, Vanessa is highly experienced in using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and other therapies to produce long term change and happiness. She has worked in hospitals, the community, and private practice and been responsible for clinical evaluations of complex and serious client presentations as well as functional and acute conditions. She provides short and long term interventions/therapies.
Vanessa works to encompass the role of the family within the assessment and therapy plan, especially for children and adolescents, as an essential tool in the search for the well-being and emotional health of everyone in the family as a whole.
Vanessa has a background in assessment and treatment of low mood and anxiety disorders, post-traumatic disorders and symptoms, psychotic disorders and episodes, personality disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, self-harm behaviours and suicidal ideation, domestic violence cycle and addictions, both in the public- community and private contexts, using CBT tools as a way to support people afflicted with debilitating symptoms, aggravated by the stress of everyday modern life. Her experience includes working with individuals, groups, and multi-family clinical care.
Vanessa is also interested in the impact of traumatic experiences in people and whānau, the complexity of grief and losses (including immigration), different forms of abuse and violence, various types of sufferings and changes in the lives of children, adolescents, and adults, whether these experiences are minors or complex, and uses tools and resources to offer a safe and welcoming space for processing these experiences.
Vanessa believes in positive change and growth and the overcoming of negative emotions, feelings and behaviour regardless of their origins - development, trauma, grief and loss and/or any other situation.
