Courtney is a fully registered counsellor with the New Zealand Association of Counsellors, and has extensive experience working with older children and adolescents. Courtney has worked as a counsellor spanning three different schools, including leading the Counselling Team at a local Auckland secondary school. She is passionate about working with young people and takes a therapeutic stance of curiosity, respect and collaboration.
Narrative Therapy forms the foundation of Courtney's practice whilst drawing on other modalities such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy and Mindfulness. Courtney always aims to work with clients in ways which best fit for them.
Courtney understands how daunting counselling can be for young people, and works to create a safe space that empowers her clients to have a sense of agency over the problems they are struggling with. Courtney holds the belief that clients possess many skills, values, strengths and hopes that will assist them in reducing the influence of problems on their lives, and prides herself on this strengths based approach.
Courtney is passionate about supporting her clients in a range of issues including anxiety, school related issues, relationships, anger, identity, self esteem, depression, grief and loss, and self harming behaviours.
