Dr Loretta White is a registered Clinical Psychologist with over 13 years of postgraduate experience with children, young people and their families. She completed her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Oxford in 2008. She then worked in three major Paediatric Hospitals in the UK (John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford; Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London; and Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge) with clients with a wide range of Paediatric acute and chronic health problems. She also worked in private practice. During her time in the UK Loretta was a committee member of the Faculty for Children and Young People, British Psychological Society.
In 2018 Loretta and her family moved to Okinawa, Japan where she worked with the Ganjuu Wellbeing Service at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) for 3.5 years. Her role involved supporting the wellbeing of students, staff, faculty and their families. During this time she developed wellbeing services for children and families at OIST, including regular parenting seminars on a range of topics and emotional literacy, mindfulness and yoga sessions into the University Child Development Center and After-School Program.
Loretta and her family moved to New Zealand in January 2022. She has worked at Starship Hospital in the Consult Liaison Team since February 2022 providing support to children with congenital heart disease and their families. She has worked at Totally Psyched since July 2022.
Loretta has a particular interest and lots of experience in working with people with health concerns. She can work with children, adolescents, and families on a range of presenting problems including anxiety disorders, depression, trauma, adjustment, self-esteem, behavioural difficulties, and family conflict. Loretta works in a person-centred way and is trained in a number of therapeutic approaches, including behavioural, CBT, Systemic Therapy, Narrative Therapy, EMDR, ACT, and DBT. She will chose the right approach for you and your family often integrating these. Loretta is a warm, enthusiastic and genuine therapist and is looking forward to meeting you and your family.
