Understanding Depression in Children and Teens
Depression in children and young people doesn't always look like sadness. It can show up as irritability, withdrawal from friends and family, loss of interest in things they used to enjoy, changes in sleep or appetite, low energy, difficulty concentrating, or negative thinking about themselves and the future.
Who this is for
We support children, teens and young adults experiencing low mood at any level - from a difficult patch following a stressful life event, through to a diagnosable depressive disorder.
What to expect
As with all our therapy services, we start with an assessment to build a joint understanding of what's going on and what might help, before agreeing a plan together. Our clinicians draw on therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, tailored to the young person's age and needs.
Where depression is significant, persistent, or not responding to therapy alone, a Psychiatric Medication Consultation can also be discussed with your clinician as part of a broader treatment plan.
