Understanding Tourette's Syndrome and Tics

Tourette's Syndrome and other tic disorders involve involuntary, repetitive movements (motor tics) or sounds (vocal tics). Tics often come and go, change over time, and can be more noticeable during stress, tiredness or excitement. Tourette's and tics frequently occur alongside other concerns such as ADHD, anxiety, or OCD.

Who this is for

We support children and teens who have been diagnosed with, or are showing signs of, Tourette's Syndrome or another tic disorder, including families wanting to understand what they're seeing and what support is available.

What to expect

Our team can assess tic presentations alongside any co-occurring concerns, provide psychoeducation for young people and their families about tics and how to respond to them, and offer behavioural strategies for tic management as part of a broader package of support.

Where tics or associated difficulties (such as ADHD or anxiety) are significantly affecting daily functioning, a Psychiatric Medication Consultation can also be discussed with your clinician.
